We’ve just finished up on these beautiful invites to the upcoming Geoff Harvey show at the Robin Gibson gallery in Darlinghurst. This postcard features two great examples of his current sculptural works which will be on show from Tuesday; Coco and Jack. Coco is a cat and Jack is a dog. Geoff Harvey is best known for his sculptures of dogs, but also does a lot of cats and birds. We think he’s managed to do a very sneaky thing by basing all his art around cats, dogs and birds. How could we not love sculptures of our darling pets? Still, he’s a seriously accomplished artist, winning the 2012 $20, 000 Gallipoli prize for his work Trench Interment. On top of being represented by the Robin Gibson gallery, his work his held at amazing collections like the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra and the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, as well as more than fifty other, including some swish private collections in France. Switzerland and Hong Kong.
The Robin Gibson gallery is a great for the art world in that it picks up new artists just out of art courses and really gives them some crucial exposure in the art world. They also do cool things like online exhibitions where they showcase the work of a single artist on their site, and you can browse some great art and feel super cultured whilst sitting on your couch in your undies, munching on a bowl of cereal and jubes. We would never do that ourselves of course, here at IYBI we’re always snappily dressed. But your life is your life and we don’t judge. If you choose you can also learn more about the art world by listening to their new monthly feature of podcast interviews, also in your undies, on the couch, jubes etc.
