Being All ‘Creative’

Creativity – the term is frequently tossed back and forth in every which way possible.  Often the application of the word is utilized fairly loosely, making us intrigued as to whether anyone actually knows what exactly creativity entails.  Whether you believe it or not, originating from the time when we were birthed from the womb, everyone is inherently creative. Yes this is quite a generalized statement, which said aloud in a crowded room may amount to retaliations of several overused phrases including ‘I don’t possess a creative bone in my body’ or ‘I’m about as creative as an old (insert chosen animal, object or somewhat derogatory term here)’.  Funnily enough, professional networking website Linkedin has recently released a list compiling the most overused career buzz words of the year and low and behold, ‘Creative’ is sitting at numero uno.
Being ‘a creative’ has nothing to do with any one specific activity, like proclaiming that you are ‘the’ creative genius at cutting onions.  It really just allows one to recognize ideas or possibilities and assist in communicating and problem solving in various ways.  As a sydney creative agency we partake in this process quite often.  ‘Being creative’ is not something you can document, measure, then take to your local laboratory and clone the heck out of.  It would also be foolish to try and rank an individuals level of creativity or measure innovation, as concepts are extremely subjective.  In short, creativity doesn’t have to be big or small.  It is quite simply a beautiful thing that cannot be faked.  Creativity comes about with the right amount of expression, personal intuition, skill and innovation collaborating and forming into a nice little bundle of goodness.
