Music videos have an absolutely remarkable tradition of being open to just about anything. From Sid Vicious and the Sex Pistols through to the Flaming Lips’ tripped out clips, you have an average of three and a half minutes to do whatever the hell you like. Namely, get people’s attention. As designers we have three and a half seconds! TV places like Rage and MTV meant you had to wait until the clip finished before seeing what was next. A fun game to play at 2am. On YouTube, if you’re crap, you’re nexted* Our MD and Creative Director is also a musician. The cross over from design to film is an obvious one but not to be taken lightly** He just shot and directed a video for his band Circle. We’re just wondering if that means DPM now do Video? Whatever the case may be, how can you not be in love with the idea that anyone with a video phone and a few whacky ideas can make a video that people want to watch again and again. Watch this space people. Watch this space.
*Nexted means they hit next. We found this word in a documentary about chat roulette. Charming social experiment.
**Clips are a great place to start.
