No need to book, just rock up! This is a popular catch cry for those frequenting Lentil as Anything, a not-for-profit organisation whose restaurant has caught on in Sydney, after having flourished in Melbourne in four successful locations.
Operating to a ‘pay as you feel’ pricing model, the team at Lentil care for people by providing nutritious meals, reaching out to the young and old, and to those that are disadvantaged and marginalised.
With a focus on food rather than on money, Lentil as Anything is run by a volunteer team and customers pay what they feel the food is worth
At the heart of the thriving restaurant is a focus on food, rather than on money. With a volunteer team spreading Lentil’s ethos and values by getting involved in the kitchen, customers pay what they feel the food is worth, donating towards the philosophy of the organisation – one that Shanaka Fernando founded.
A communal and welcoming presence embraces you as you wander into the Lentil as Anything restaurant; bustling with activity, people lining up to fill their plates and volunteers milling around to collect soy chai latté orders, you feel the warm sense of community radiating from everyone and we love it! With a menu that ranges from Asian fusion to Ethiopian, Greek, Mediterranean, Himalayan/Nepalese… and much more, there is so much to choose from their vegetarian buffet and you won’t miss out, you can go back for round two!
Independent of any government funded initiative, Lentil as Anything relies solely on the generosity and backing of locals’ donations, with over 70% of food coming from markets, farmers and local growers. The Yokel team are ecstatic to support such an inspiring organisation, we encourage all to seek some lentil love and make a wish when you pay!
