We love a start-up, and who doesn’t? The dedication and enthusiasm from a start-up business is often infectious, and when me3 came to us they were no exception. me3 are creating a proof of concept app which has yet to be developed, and the founders have a beautifully simple vision: a food photo app for food lovers – think instagram for foodies. Sounds good right? We thought so too (to be honest they had us at ‘food’) and we jumped at the chance to help this exciting project grow.
This project was more than just a simple food app logo design. With food and photography at the core, we went for a striking, colourful identity that is both playful and delivers a punchy message.
The start-up initially came to us for help in developing their brand identity, and we began by working on their logo. They wanted a fresh, modern identity that had real personality, and would convey a love of food to a young foodie demographic, and was also perfectly clear about what it was – a food and photography app.
We began as we do any project like this, with the research stage – collating real world examples of beautiful logo design, and working with the client to work out what they do and don’t like, and why. We love this stage as not only do we get to sift over amazing design work, we really get to understand who we’re working with and what they want. It’s this personal, collaborative approach that enables us to get it spot on – every time.
It quickly became apparent there were a number of things we needed to communicate with this logo – Food, photos, fun, love, and location. This is a photo sharing app centred around food lovers, that uses location based services. After working closely with the client through several rounds of development, we came up with the final design.
We went for a striking, colourful identity that is playful, yet clear with it’s intent. The graphic elements used clearly represent food and drink, whilst also combining the recognisable symbol of a location pin with a heart and camera lens – Food, photos, fun, love, and location. We went for a contemporary bold mono line style, and complemented this with the choice of a rounded, sans serif font that adds to the warm personality of the logo. This logo design has given the me3 team a great start to their exciting brand development, and we can’t wait to show you the app once that’s complete.
