Posters are both over rated by the design elite among us and alternative cultures* in our cities and underrated by… well by the rest of us** We love posters at If You Build It and although we don’t actively ‘poster’ our goods and services (maybe we should try that some time), we propose that it is a wonderful alternative to marketing your goods and / or services. Like any guerrilla style marketing and graphic art form, posters have an indeterminable life span. 2 hours maybe*** or maybe a couple of months. Sometimes until the UV rays turn magenta and cyan into salty white. There’s nothing quite like a poster that has over stayed it’s welcome.
We’re not saying it’s a be all and end all solution to any of your marketing woes. There aint no such thing kids! But we are saying it’s an option worth exploring. Last year we were invited to pitch for the World AIDS day campaign. Here is one of the posters we submitted. We think it’s pretty cool. We’ve also done heaps for the band Circle which we should probably put up here at some point.
*we use that term so loosely that we think that out of the 5 people at DPM Creative, we’re involved in at least 42 alternative cultures.
**and looser still we use the term ‘rest of us’ because who are we really anyway?
*** have you heard about the Sydney poster wars? Ask Jim from Phantom and he’ll tell you all about them.
