Stella Downer Fine Art is a gallery located in the blossoming art precinct of Waterloo, showcasing pieces of contemporary gold from established, mid-career and emerging artists. One of their artist’s, Steve Lopes explores objects and figures presented within varying landscapes through a body of work titled ‘Junk’. “I try to deal with the figure and the landscape together. For me, it’s about the relationship we have with our surrounds. The tension between the two both visually and metaphorically is what makes it interesting to tackle that subject.” We love the exploration and detail embedded within Lopes’ landscapes and how they evoke emotional responses to ideas or topics typically overlook, or in this case swiftly toss into the trash. Stella Downer recruited us to design a postcard for the exhibition, which explores beauty within our everyday using ordinary objects and thrusting them into the spotlight. This particular concept makes our heart beat significantly faster, similar to a kid in a candy store. The design for the invitation had to mirror the sleek, minimal look of the Stella Downer brand and incorporate Lopes work to successfully deliver the cohesive message of the exhibit. We created an A5 card that illustrates one of Steve Lopes works, doubling as a clever promotional tool carrying details of the show and looking pretty darn good while it’s at it. The end result is almost perfection itself, a glorious print of lopes’ work and a humble slice of Stella Downer Fine Art all bundled into one ready-to-go package. Got an idea that you have been itching to put forth to the world. Don’t be shy, we’d love to meet you.
