Owned and run by a family who got their start as growers, Sunset Flowers is the perfect local florist. They are experts, knowing everything about their business from the seeds right through to floral styling for extravagant events.
Based in Marrickville, Sunset is the ideal place to pick up a sweet posy of tea roses to say thank you to a friend, the huge bunch of peonies to say I’m sorry to your girlfriend, or a delicate arrangement to carry down the isle.
With such a busy product, Sunset Flowers wanted their logo to contrast and still draw attention even with all of the beautiful floral competition
One of the main aims of this project was to bring everything into line under one cohesive visual identity, encouraging brand recognition and from there, more events. The best thing about Sunset is that while they have their sights set high, they are determined to keep their prices low. They think that everybody should be able to afford the pleasure of fresh flowers in their home, and want to help that become a reality.
They wanted a brand that wouldn’t date easily – simple, striking and bold. With such a busy product, they wanted the logo to contrast and still draw attention even with all of the beautiful floral competition.
Flowers are such a personal thing – everyone has their favourites, and they have been used for centuries to communicate love and friendship. We wanted to reflect this in the identity so we developed a hand drawn logo type. After many, many variations (and quite a bit of ink) we finally got it perfect. The script is bold, relaxed and unique.
While we love the type solo, we thought we could also add another layer of meaning, so we developed a symbol which reflects both rays of sunshine and a flower, representing both the business name and product. By placing the symbol directly behind the type, it suggests a horizon line, reinforcing the sun motif and the name.
All of the elements are just as strong on their own as they are together, and to add to the diversity of the logo suite we also developed several colour variations. This allows Sunset a huge amount of versatility which is necessary for a business which has such large and varied range of collateral.
While one option might look great on a ribbon, it might not work as well on a sticker or business card. The logo suite which has been developed allows the brand to stay strong and true while not being limited to particular formats. The challenge for cohesion has certainly been met.
Sunset Flowers have been busy bees – while undertaking this project, they were also giving their physical store a facelift. When you’re next in Marrickville, drop in and see their branding in full effect – and pick up those peonies while you’re there.
